Mr. Hunaid Lakhani, Chancellor
After graduating in Business Administration from The American College, Los Angeles, in 1997, Mr. Lakhani graduated from the Owner-President Management Program at Harvard Business School, USA, in 2006.
In 1998, Mr. Lakhani founded Iqra University to offer international quality education to the people of Pakistan. Iqra University is chartered by the Government of Sindh, recognized by the Higher Education Commission, and is ranked No.1 private university in Sindh by CIEC. Iqra University has seven campuses in the major cities of Pakistan with about 10,000 students.
Mr. Lakhani brings with him over ten years of experience in the housing industry. During this period, several projects were completed by him including Hunaid City, Karachi; Cecil Apartments, Murree; and Gulshan View, Karachi.
Mr. Lakhani is also a Member, Sindh IT (Information Technology) Board, chaired by the Governor of Sindh. He is also the Founder and first elected President of the Association of Private Universities in Pakistan. He is an active Member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), and is Networking Chair of the YPO’s Indus Chapter.
He is also actively involved in social welfare projects. One of his philanthropies includes setting up of institutions for mentally and physically disabled orphans under the name of “Sweet Home Foundation.” He is also a Member of the Board of the Watan Foundation, which focuses on provision of drinking water, rural health and skill development in the less developed parts of the country.
Dr. U.A.G. Isani, President & Vice Chancellor
Dr. U.A.G. Isani is a Ph.D. in Education Administration from NUML, Master’s in Education Administration from University of California, Berkley, and also has Master’s degree in History from Punjab University. He has done B.A., LL.B. from Punjab University.
Before joining Iqra University as Vice Chancellor, Dr. U.A.G. Isani was the Vice Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, where he completed his 4 years tenure. At Islamabad University, Dr. Isani had build up admissions of about 800 scholars in the Ph.D. program and about 1000 scholars in the M. Phil program.
Dr. Isani has remained the Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Pakistan (HEC) for 5 years. Dr. Isani has also served as the Secretary Ministry of Education, Government of Sindh and also as the Secretary, Ministry of Food & Agriculture, Ministry of Railways, and Ministry of Health Government of Pakistan until his promotion as Secretary General in the Establishment Division. He has also remained Principal Secretary to Prime Minister and Chief Secretary, Government of NWFP (Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa).
Dr. Isani is an accomplished educationist and a career bureaucrat. He has been instrumental in taking IU to new heights. Under his able guidance IU has and will continue to win academic laurels.
Dr. Wasim Qazi, Vice President
Dr. Wasim Qazi did his 1st Post-Doc from Australian Catholic University, Sydney and 2nd Post-Doc from Eastern Kentucky University, USA. He did his PhD in Educational Administration and Masters in Philosophy. He began his career in 1995-96 from Hamdard University as a Special Assistant to the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. He has been the International Visiting Scholar of Western Michigan University, USA.
In 1999, he joined University of Lahore as Advisor to the Rector and Director Institute of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He is working with ESRA, RTI–USAID as Director Operation, Teacher’s Training for Province of Sindh to promote the objectives of providing systematic improvement in the key aspects of the education delivery system. He is also working as Senior Management Consultant to European Commission.
Dr. Qazi has published a number of research papers on various problems and issues related to education in Pakistan. He has presented a number of papers in international and national conferences. He has supervised and is supervising students for their M.Phil and Ph.D theses. An eminent educationist, Dr. Qazi brings with him a wealth of national and international education administration experience and has added immense value to the IU brand name.
Mr. Salman Abbasi, Director Academics
Mr. Salman Abbasi is a Fulbright Scholar. He did his Masters in Management from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia on a scholarship from US Department of State. He also holds a Diploma in Non-Profit Management from Fels School UPENN, USA. Prior to that his first foreign scholarship was to Japan under the auspices of Japanese Government (JICA) in the area of Good Governance.
Mr. Abbasi brings with him a wealth of international and national corporate experience. In the past, he has been associated with various corporate trainings in Pakistan as well as USA. He has also served at a senior management position in Election Commission of Pakistan.
An ardent follower of sports, Mr. Abbasi follows all international political and economic events closely. He also holds a Masters degree in International Relations and a Law degree from University of Karachi. He teaches Management and Communication subjects to BBA, MBA and M.Phil students.
