PAYAM-E-IQBAL
“Payam-e-Iqbal” seminar, understanding the message of Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Iqbal, was held on Tuesday, May 08th, 2012 in Iqra University’s Auditorium at Main Campus, Karachi. It was no conventional seminar; rather it focused on youth’s interests and character grooming. To shed light upon the message of Iqbal for the youth of Pakistan, the seminar was graced with the intellect presence of Prof. Dr. Shakeel Auj, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies, Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Zahid Ali Zahidi, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Karachi University, Prof. Naushaba Siddiqui, former Principal of Allama Iqbal Girls College, and last but certainly not the least, Dr. Nasreen Pervez, Civil Services, Election Commission of Pakistan. Dr. Engr. Kamran Raza, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Sciences & Technology, Iqra University, chaired the seminar. He also shared his valuable thoughts with the audience and extended a vote of appreciation to the guest speakers, event organizers and students.
The seminar, “Payam-e-Iqbal” was inaugurated with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the Hamd-e-Bari Tallah and Naat-e-Rasool (SAWW), recited by the students of Iqra University. Soon after the speeches in Urdu as well as in English delivered by the students on the topic of “Today’s Youth and Allama Iqbal”, Prof. Dr. Zahid Zahidi, Dr. Nasreen Pervez, Prof. Naushaba Siddiqui and Dr. Shakeel Auj shared their knowledge and views with the students. All the guest speakers were kind enough to relate the examples and events of Allama Iqbal’s life with the students, which created a keen interest in the audience. The students were urged to read Iqbal’s poetry as it directly relates to the youth of today.
This successful seminar was an outcome of unrest efforts of the students of Islamic and Pakistan Studies, Iqra University, under the vigilant supervision of Dr. Sabiha Bano, Dr. Rahat Jahan and Dr. Sajjad Hussain Qastoori. A large number of Urdu and Persian poetry lovers, over 300 in number, including students and staff from various departments of Iqra University attended the seminar.
“Payam-e-Iqbal” was a first of its kind, yet a successful and significant initiative taken by Dr. Sabiha Bano and other faculty members. The aim was to boost the importance of social and moral values within the students who have been engaged with professional studies and victimized in the era where hardly any values of culture and Urdu literature exist. At the end of seminar, guest speakers had an interaction with the students where students shared their apprehensions and asked intriguing questions. The students were zealous and rejoiced with the spirit of patriotism and spirituality.
